This is the day to go back and re-try that failed attempt to walk from Schynige Platte to First. We gear up for six hours of mostly ridge-top walking, according to our map, and are on the early trains to make it to the little cog oldster train--it's so cute. And it's as crowded as before.
Jim stretches his calf muscles while we wait for the train--muscle memories of his solo 20-miler yesterday linger.
View from the cog train up to Schynige Platte. See town of Interlaken and one of the lakes down in the valley. |
At Schynige Platte. Jim checks his GPS to load the geocache sites he's identified, and checks the map for our route. |
View from Schynige Platte before we start walking. We're not going that way--thank goodness, we think; it looks like rain over there. |
Best cow pie warning we've seen! |
We are happy to get to do this walk, at last. |
In the following photos you'll see the progress of our six hours on the trail. Some clouds that are portents of upcoming meatballs. More climbs up and climbs down than anticipated. Three geocaches, which are my incentive to keep going at some points--"How many miles to the next one?" I ask Jim, and we count down the tenths of a mile. And an final few miles with soggy boots and a surprise wildlife meeting at the trail-side before we descend to the train home via a gondola.
Dry boots.
We are almost to the gondola. Another mile or two.
It's not often that you see a fox plucking a chicken alongside the trail.
I really am this happy to be riding the gondola. And super glad to have this day's experiences. Will our boots dry by tomorrow?
Imagine how tired Jim's legs are now...
And we make it back home in time for dinner. Not meatballs.
