Meals, and Jungfraujoch
Day 4, Sun, camera failure, and food.
My camera battery didn't charge overnight, and I'm left without for our trip to the Top of Europe--Jungfraujoch--today, a spectacularly sunny day. Photos from there are on this blog from August 2011 if you'd like to see that most stunning glacier. But I did have my camera functional for breakfast and dinner, so here's a foodie view of the day.
After we visited Jungfraujoch and arrived on that train back at Kleine Scheidegg, we walked back to Wengen. Spectacular, sunny day with few clouds on a trail that began easy-downhill but proved to get more steep. Views were awesome. The best walk so far, for moving within the presence of the Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau mountains.
Breakfast spread at the Baren Hotel.
Train ride from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg, where we change to the Jungfraujoch train.
Then no camera! So here's dinner, when I had recharged for a few minutes and had enough juice to take these photos.
The menu is in Swiss German. This is today's set menu served to us half-boarders, a 4-course meal. The walk-in diners also have a full menu to order from, and everyone has a large wine selection, too.
Everything tonight is delicious. Delightful. Oh, so good.
Mustard cream soup.
Turnip (cabbage?) and apple tart with curried lentils (orange), with green salad.
Chicken breast with lavender sauce. This chicken was the most tender I have ever eaten. And carrots and rice.
Dessert is cream caramel, pudding-thick rather than like flan, with whipped cream atop and a raspberry swirl to dip into.
I'm charging my camera now.
