Wengen, Switzerland
July 27, walk from Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken
Mary and Karen are arriving this afternoon and we're meeting them at the train station in Interlaken Ost. So we set out in the morning from the Lauterbrunnen train station to walk the almost flat route along the White River through Wilderswil and into Interlaken. It's about 9 miles.

Checking for geocaches along the way. |
While we wait for the train to move through the Zweilutschinen station so we can access the trail again, it feels really good to sit down. |
It's a cold drink along the trail through a village. Lynn and Kevin head into Interlaken by another route and plan to take the funicular up to Harder Kolm and look around. |
We plan to go through Bonigen, a small town next to the lake and near the Interlaken Ost train station. Word is that 'little old hiking ladies' of Switzerland set the time-walking estimates. They walk faster than I do. The Lutschinenpromenade means this way is along the river. Shade trees! |
We cross the river and walk into Bonigen. I'm getting really tired walking in the heat with a pack on. The roads triangle right here, where there's a drinking fountain/trough, a shade tree, a bench, and a trash can. We eat our lunch. |
This is a side paddle cruiser. Looks relaxing. It's a really hot day, in the 80s. There are people swimming and sunning and picnicing all along the lake-side trail. We're trying to stay on the shady side of the trail while we walk to the train station to wait for Mary and Karen's connection. A playful retriever swims over to shore, shakes, and hands me her stick to throw. I wish I could jump in with her and cool off. Only a kilometer to the train station! |
Together, and on our way back to Wengen. |
Welcome to Wengen! |
Spicy banana soup. I am so hungry that I forget to take a photo. When I look up, everyone else has already finished, too. It's really yummy. I would never think of making banana soup! |
Simple salad, but favorite of all of us. The dressing is SOOOO good. No recipe available. |
Trout, coated in 'very fresh' alpen cheese and almond crust. Is this the cheese we saw being made on Tuesday? Spinach, and gnocci. |
Nasturtium, anyone?
Cherry tart. Very berry. I could eat this every night. |
